Oh Yes...The Dress

Although Mike and I had already decided on a colour scheme for the Wedding, I still wanted to figure out what type of dress I would be wearing so that we could pick colours for the Wedding Party to wear.

My two favourite styles are Illusion Necklines/Straps and Blush Gowns:

Engagement Party Prep

As I mentioned in the last post, Mike and I decided on "A Country-Chic Picnic" for our Engagement Party theme.

Here are our "Inspiration Ideas":

  • Red + White Gingham
  • Mason Jar Vases
  • Paper PomPoms
  • Glass Pop Bottles with paper straws
  • Fun food and desserts

Engagement Pictures

We already had our wedding photographers picked - Renaissance Studios - but a great way to get comfortable with your photographer before the big day is doing Engagement pictures.

Our Engagement Party was coming up, so we decided to go with our party theme and head out with the photographer Josh for a picnic.

Josh is great.  We told him what we had in mind and he picked a great location for the shoot - Scotsdale Farm in Halton Hills (near Georgetown,Ontario).

We shot with Josh for two hours and he sent us these seven shots a week later so we would have them in time to use at our Engagement Party.  Can't wait to see the rest of them!

The Wedding "Theme"

Once we had our venue picked - Le Meridien's King Edward Hotel in Toronto, it was obvious what the wedding's colour scheme was going to be.

The Soverign Ballroom on the main floor of the hotel is beautiful.  Heavily coffered ceilings, moulding on the walls - the room is almost all white.  The curtains are a pale gold colour, and the unique carpeting is a giant swirl made of different shades of green, with a dark wood boarder surrounding the room.

So these will be our colours:

  • shades of white, cream, grey and champagne
  • yellow and rose gold accents
  • pops of green

Here are some inspiration images:

How It All Started...

Let me start by introducing myself - my name is Kate and I work in art and design.
By day I work on an Interior Design team, and by night I make art + accessories.
"Bee A Deer" is the name of my accessories line, and "Bee A Bride" is a new line of bridal accessories!
I decided to start this line (and this blog!) after I started planning my own wedding. Before I could start planning my wedding, I had to get Engaged.
Mike and I met on an online dating site (Plenty of Fish) almost 4 years ago.  On our 3 year anniversary, he proposed!

Once I started my planning I fell in love with "wedding research".  In this blog I will share what I've been finding during my countdown to the Big Day!

Once we picked a date (June 1st, 2013) we wanted to get 3 things booked - a Church, a Reception Venue, and a Photographer!

We looked at a few venue options, and finally narrowed it down to 2 locations:
The King Edward Hotel or Berkeley Church (both in downtown Toronto)

KING EDWARD HOTEL'S SOVERIGN BALLROOM

BERKELEY CHURCH

The decision to go with The King Eddy came when we went to an Open House for Berkeley Church last winter, and the furnace was broken.  The last time I had been there for an event was in the summer, and the AC was broken then too.  The odds were not in our favour that our wedding there would go without a hitch!
The King Eddy was the "safer" choice - it also didn't need as much "decorating" as Berkeley would, plus it is in a Hotel, so accommodation for our guests would be easier.

Next we found our Photographer.  Mike and I interviewed 3 photography studios before deciding on Josh at Renaissance Studios. We love the look of their work, and Josh was so professional and easy to get along with.

For our Church, we had just started going to one near our condo, and after meeting with the priest Fr. Steve, we knew it would be perfect for us.  I found out later that my Grandparents had actually been married in the same Church, St. Peter's,  in 1941.
